Report writing

This term we will be learning about how to write reports.  A report needs lots of things like capital letters and stops, a title, an introduction, paragraphs, conclusion, and many others.  Here is a short report we wrote together about kiwis.

Kiwi

In this report you will learn about kiwis, their special features and what they eat.

Kiwi features
A kiwi is an amazing flightless bird with many special features.  It has an unusually long beak with nostrils at the end (see picture).  The kiwi also has one of the largest eggs compared to its body size.

What a kiwi eats
A kiwi is a nocturnal bird that only hunts at night.  Kiwis eat all sorts of small creatures such as insects, spiders and worms.  It prods its very long beak into the ground to find insects.

Conclusion

I think a really interesting fact is that kiwis will even walk into streams to hunt eels.

Cross Country Running

We have started cross country running practice on most days.  We are trying to get fitter by beating our own personal best times.  First we did a slow jog and timed how long it took.  Then the next time we went a little bit faster and tried to beat our own time.  Next week we are going to be going a little bit further.

Meet Gurgle and Cola!

Here are Gurgle and Cola on the couch.  They are two new members of the Room 16 learning community.   We use them in circle time so we know who is allowed to talk and they are really good listeners!  We use circle time to come up with great solutions to solve our problems, and ways to make sure the problems hopefully don't happen again.

Beach Trip Recount Writing

Here is our class recount that we wrote about the beach trip:

Thunderbolts Beach Trip
Boom! Crash!  The freezing green waves crashed against the black rocks.
I was with the amazing thunderbolts community on a Beach trip to Takapuna.
First we walked along the yellow wet sand.   Then we slowly climbed onto the glistening stone path and we zipped along the gravel trail to Milford beach. Finally we arrived and had our tasty lunch before making sandcastles.
I could feel the burning hot sun shining on my skin as I gazed at Rangitoto lying in the ocean like a whale.
I felt amazed but exhausted when we arrived back at school.
